| The time has come to kill all the plastic bags
So instead of nickle and diming us about plastic bag use, how about talking to the idiots with four cars in their driveways or heated backyard pools? And China as an example of environmentalism is laughable as they are one of the biggest industrial polluters in the world. Posted 11/02/08 at 8:17 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .

iPhone upgraders encounter SIM problems
Some shoppers who have decided to upgrade from their current 4 or 8GB iPhones to the 16GB model are experiencing problems, anecdotes indicate. Although users should be able to insert their old SIM card into the new phone, and resume calling after identifying themselves as an existing AT&T customer, confusion reigns over whether or not the new phone automatically adds another two years to a person's AT&T contract. While some people have claimed no extension whatsoever, others have been angered to discover an extra obligation. Part of the confusion may be attributable to the employees of Apple Stores and AT&T, some of whom are delivering contradictory messages on whether a contract extension is required; it may in a few instances be possible to negotiate no added contract length.

Revised ISLA up for markup on Thursday
The committee has worked very closely with [Guam] Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo's office and my office in amending this bill. They listened very carefully to the testimony at the field hearing in August, and I feel have made significant improvements to the bill," said Tenorio. Congress determinedHe said the U.S. Congress is still determined to pass this bill during the 110th Congress despite the strong opposition presented by the Fitial administration, business organizations, and local CNMI groups to the proposed federal takeover."I am grateful that they have taken the time to consider the views and opinions of the people of the Commonwealth in their deliberations. I am returning to Washington to be present at the mark-up and be available if any member of the committee wishes to ask me any questions," said Tenorio.
YO, AMIGO! ROMNEY TAPS TANCREDO
It's worth noting that on the eve of the big debate here in New Hampshire, Team Romney rolled out also-ran Tom Tancredo, the hardline Colorado congressman whose entire – albeit pretty brief – presidential campaign was based on one issue: Stopping illegal immigration. The Romney campaign sent out a special reminder to reporters about the news conference, at which Tancredo and law enforcement officials were to “contrast Gov. Romney's record and proposals to end illegal immigration with that of other candidates." It was a direct shot at rival John McCain, who angered a lot of Republicans by advancing an immigration reform plan that some people called an amnesty program: "John McCain is not simply part of the problem. John McCain is the reason we have the problem," sniped Tancredo at the presser, according to a transcript provided by the Romney campaign.
Tex limbers up for a playoff run
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Want to know one reason, other than immense talent, that Mark Teixeira has put up better offensive statistics than all but a handful of major league players during the past five seasons? I say this because I'm sitting here, my lower back still sore from a run in our friendy, sterile suburban neighborhood last night, drinking coffee and trying to wake up, while watching Tex do an impressive little routine at the batting cage. The rest of the players are sitting in the dugout, looking much as I do right now (tired), waiting for the workout to start, and Teixeira is alone next to the cage, supporting himself with one hand on the rail while he does a set of stretches that would make a gymnast (or legendary punter Ray Guy) proud. He holds his other hand out, head-high, and does a series of kicks, touching his hand with his foot each time.
Kaufman man defends his shooting of teen
Later June Nalls, while attempting to transport the injured teen to a hospital, was killed when a 1996 Ford traveling eastbound on State Highway 243 in the opposite direction drifted into her lane, striking another car before colliding with the small pickup in which Nalls, her son and the wounded teen were traveling just outside the Kaufman city limits.A longtime neighbor of the Nalls family, Frosch expressed his regrets about their loss."The family of Mark and June Nalls was good friends of mine," Frosch said. "I hurt and mourn her death." .
Only 3 more days ...
Meanwhile, I couldn't resist posting this e-mail from John Rook because it's right on. And so again, the in house newsletter of the Hagadone empire, The Coeur dAlene Press, demonstrates why the newspaper, like its publisher, lacks the respect of north Idahoans. Always used to slant the news in favor of a Hagadone campaign, the Press has now invited its less than valid readership to vote on the top stories of this past year. Of course, missing from the list is the passing of one of Idahos best known leaders, Ronald Rankin. His death in October leaves a huge vacancy that the Haga-Press can only hope will never be duplicated in the future. Rankin as a Kootenai county commissioner and as an ombudsman for the citizens of the county for dozens of years was never appreciated by Duane Hagadone or the editors of his newspaper as he often held their feet to the fire on issues vital to the public.
