Salmond: 'I'll quit if Budget falls'

But, with only a minority of the MSPs in the parliament, the SNP cannot be sure of getting its finance package through.John Swinney, the finance secretary, has made significant concessions in an attempt to secure the support of the Conservatives, the Greens and Margo MacDonald, the independent MSP.But the vote is still on a knife-edge and although Mr Swinney will make a series of last-minute concessions today to try to get the support he needs, none of the opposition parties was willing to commit their support to the Budget yesterday.A spokesman for the First Minister announced Mr Salmond's ultimatum after a meeting of the Cabinet last night. He said: "If the parliament decides it doesn't want it (the Budget], it would be entirely appropriate for the issues to be taken to the people."The view of ministers would be that this would be the right thing to do."If the Budget is rejected, Mr Salmond has the option of putting a motion for the dissolution of the parliament to the chamber.

Tomorrow Never Dies?

Then again, Nour may want to change the names of his parties, because it seems that with the PPAC, tomorrow never comes.

Allah Akbar

YOU CAN COMPLAIN about the cacophony of today's so-called singers, but what about those who call the faithful to prayer five times a day? Just try it and you'll get a one-way ticket to hell, it seems.

It's an attitude Minister of Awqaf Hamdi Zaqzouq is campaigning to change after receiving a spate of complaints from citizens fed up with the lousy voices of many of the capital city's muezzins and with their poor sense of timing, given that each mosque seems to call the azan at a slightly different time.

Nokia E90 vs N810: Part 2 - GPS, Apps, Web and Multimedia

All wireless networks now provide much wider, faster and cheaper coverage than they used to, and that trend will probably continue. When mobile phones first began people complained about the huge gaps in the networks which seemed to be based around cities and towns, but it's now becoming increasingly difficult to find gaps even in the countryside. Here in Finland you can row out into the middle of a lake in the middle of nowhere, and you can surf the internet through a mobile phone connection that costs less per month than home broadband. That kind of connectivity was unimaginable 10 or 20 years ago, and in another 10 or 20 years the world may be unbelievably connected. (Even uninhabited deserts already have some kind of connection through satellite phones.) It's not just Google talking this way either, the idea of online apps pre-dates their existence and first came up when Java appeared.

The First Tee recently announced 12 semifinalists for the third annual RBS Achievers of the Year Awards, a program created by The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, in conjunction with Charter One and Citizens Bank, to recognize deserving participants of The First Tee and help fund their future education.

Two finalists, one female and one male, will be announced during an awards dinner at the PGA Championship on August 16. The two finalists will each receive $10,000 and the 10 semifinalists $1,000, all to fund future education.

Tough competition for video-gaming jobs

In reality, love of games is a prerequisite for most jobs in the industry, which is concentrated in the Bay Area and a few other tech-heavy regions. But as with so many things in life, it turns out that love is not enough.

You also need to show you can work on a team and that you can transform an idea into an actual game, according to hiring managers and those who already have landed in the industry. While graduates in other fields can hit job interviews with a degree and maybe an internship under their belts, wannabe gamemakers burn the midnight oil creating sample games or demo reels, short films that show off art or animation skills.

Game companies' appetite for new talent appears robust - the job fair at this year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco covered nearly an entire floor of Moscone West, with companies listing openings for programmers, animators, a variety of artists, sound engineers, game designers and game testers.

Alexander tycoon up for honour

Weird indeed that one of the most famous film stars in the world, who set up an educational charity in Scotland, should get a knighthood. Sean Connery has of course done less for Scotland than Mr P Green, Address listed as Jersey (or so his address is listed on Wendy Alexander's computer..... not that she knew about it of course....)

A fiddle, not a muddle?

Clinton campaign starts 5-point attack on Obama

Nothing about ending the ever widening wage gap that turns the middle class into the lower class and gives 70% of the wealth to only 10% of the population.

Her answer to illegal immigration, give them all driver's licenses and citizenship. Nothing about paying fines or back taxes. Nothing about making them learn english and integrating. Nothing about punishing the employers and landlords that enable them. Nothing about increasing border, port, and airport security to ensure that illegal entry does not occur.

Her policies are flawed, foolhardy, and unsustainable. They are the product of all her years of experience where she consistently follows the same failed policies. Her inability to change, think in new ways, and adapt to an ever changing world means one and only one thing.

Bali survivor slams Islam matriarch

A SURVIVOR of the first Bali bombing said the "star" of last night's ABC documentary Jihad Sheilas would be hunted down after her hardline comments about the victims.

Peter Hughes said Rabiah Hutchinson, the so-called matriarch of radical Islam in Australia, was uninformed and utterly insensitive.

"It's like going back to that moment when the suicide bomber was standing next to me," said Mr Hughes, who nearly died after the October 2002 attack in which 202 people, including 88 Australians, were killed.

Mr Hughes warned there would be some people in the community who would hunt down Ms Hutchinson, who, fearing exactly that, attempted to have the show stopped on the grounds it misrepresented the views of herself and friend Raisah bint Alan Douglas.
