Drop in home prices accelerating
I could be "savvy" all day, but if I owe 400,000 dollars on a house that's now worth $300,000, how on God's green earth does "savvy" come into play??? But do you suppose anyone will remember this after we hit bottom and the next rise starts again? It will be a realtor/buyer feeding frenzy all over again. Donald Newell, retired firefighter, dies at 86
After serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, he spent 37 years as a firefighter out of Orient Heights in East Boston for Ladder 21 and Engine 56. "He just felt so honored that he could do a job that would save people's lives," said his daughter, Julie Covey of Saugus. "That meant a lot to him." Mr. Newell also was commander of the American Legion in Saugus for five years in the late 1980s and early 1990s and was active with Shriners Aleppo Temple Fire Brigade during his retirement. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Newell leaves a son, Robert of Danvers; three sisters, Beulah Kanarkiewicz of Saugus, Phyllis Leston of Danvers, and Fern Ruble of Woburn; and four grandchildren. Services have been held. Burial was at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, in Peabody.

RESTON, Va. - Student lender SLM Corp., better known as Sallie Mae, said Tuesday it named John Hewes executive vice president and chief credit officer and Jonathan Clark as senior vice president of corporate finance. In the newly created position, Hewes will oversee the company's private student loan underwriting policies and risk management. Hewes previously worked at MBNA, a credit card issuer. Clark will oversee Sallie Mae's unsecured debt issuance and treasury operations. He will also assist the asset-backed securitization team. Before joining Sallie Mae, Clark worked at Credit Suisse. .
eBay Inc. Reports Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2007 Results
SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- eBay Inc. (Nasdaq:EBAY) (www.ebay.com) today reported financial results for its fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2007. The ecommerce company posted fourth quarter revenue of $2.18 billion, representing a $461 million year-over-year increase. Revenue grew across all businesses highlighted by more robust growth from PayPal, StubHub, Skype, classifieds and advertising. The company recorded net income on a GAAP basis of $531 million or $0.39 per diluted share, and non-GAAP net income of $611 million or $0.45 per diluted share.

I don't know why he wouldn't choose to do so, for she's a good candidate as far as I'm aware, and he's run for the Green Party before; although they burned him "good" last time. By contrast, the Australian Constitution says nothing about the way in which the powers of the Governor-General must be exercised. As a matter of law, it confers very extensive powers on the Governor-General, leaving the manner of their exercise to unwritten convention. The relevant section of the Australian Constitution, section 64 provides in essence that Ministers ‘hold office during the pleasure of the Governor-General'.
