| Chehalis man accused of lying to get flood aid
CHEHALIS, Wash. - A Chehalis man accused of lying to flood relief workers has been arrested and jailed, accused of pretending to be a flood victim and accepting relief aid. The Lewis County Sheriff's Office says 42-year-old Ted Cherry was arrested Thursday after his stories were questioned by United Way workers. Lewis County Sheriff Steve Mansfield said Cherry admitted to having lied to the workers.Cherry had walked into the United Way Relief Center, caked in mud and crying, claiming his 20-acre farm had been destroyed in the storm. Cherry said he lost everything, including his animals and an antique grand piano, and said he was contemplating suicide. That's when no less than five volunteers stopped in their tracks to help. United Way gave the man clothing and cash cards for groceries and gas.
Holiday shopping: 'The sleigh ride might be a little bit bumpier'
After Christmas 2005, Chris and Jennifer Felan faced a mound of credit card bills and had to use their tax refund for that year to pay them off. "I never felt like we were getting ahead," said Jennifer Felan, 31. "It was just a weird little cycle, where we had this extra money but we weren't able to do anything productive with it." So the Norfolk couple decided to start saving early this year, aiming to ease off the plastic and avoid debt. They now have more than $1,000 in their Christmas account to spend on themselves and their daughters, 11-year-old Madison and 8-year-old Meghan. They are considering a laptop for Madison, electric scooters for both girls and maybe a Nintendo Wii video game system for the family. Plus, they think they'll have enough to take a trip.
Brandy's Mom: Kim Kardashian Abused My Credit Card
R&B singer Brandy Norwood's mother filed a lawsuit Monday against Kim Kardashian accusing her of running up more than $120,000 in credit card charges without permission. The suit, which also names Kardashian's siblings Khloe, Kourtney and Robert Jr., alleges they ran up the charges on the mother's card in 2006 and 2007. It seeks the return of the money plus 10 percent interest. In a statement, the Kardashians denied the allegations. "The charges against the Kardashians are meritless," the statement said. "Both Kim and Khloe were employed by the Norwoods and never used their credit cards without their express authorization. The Kardashian family looks forward to proving the absurdity of these claims in a court of law." In the lawsuit, Norwood's mother, Sonja Norwood, who is also her manager, alleges Kim Kardashian had only been authorized in 2004 to make one purchase on the Norwood American Express card in Kim's then-capacity as a stylist for Brandy (Brandy's brother, Ray J, also appeared in the infamous sex tape with Kim).

Little Regulation of Tax Preparers Makes Industry Prime For Fraud
AM Tax Service on Read Street in Mount Vernon has three work stations, but on Jan. 16 the proprietress is the only one there waiting for customers. Since the store opened in early January she's blanketed the neighborhood with palm cards offering $25 and $30 discounts on tax-preparation services "starting as low as $69," as well as refund-anticipation loans, short-term cash advances offered when you file your tax return. Although unaffiliated with any of the big-three tax preparers--H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, and Liberty Tax Services--the woman who runs AM Tax says she's worked for both H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt. She's willing to tell a reporter about some of the unsavory aspects of the tax-preparation business, but she's not willing to reveal more than her first name: Amanda.

Jackson had that chance in the second half and had that gone in we could of won the game. I am impressed with our back 4 very solid and very diffiuclt to break down and we get the last glitch tackle and in bravely block the ball so full credit must go to Fuller, King, Bygrave and Nutter. Miller had that strike and again he has hit the crossbar with a spuerb effort and a shame that it did not go in because that would of been a superb goal. Cheltenham are very organized side but their keeper has to take some credit as he made some quality saves today and their a side I feel that may have enough to stay out of the bottom 4. Both teams were nervous and that is understandable and a goal would of changed the game and a shame we did not get one.
Obama wins Louisiana Democratic primary
Hillary Clinton in the Louisiana primary after caucus victories in Nebraska and Washington state earlier in the day. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, meanwhile, was locked in a tight battle with Arizona Sen. John McCain in Louisiana's Republican primary. Neither candidate was expected to reach the 50 percent vote share needed to claim the delegates -- 20 of the state GOP's 47 -- at stake Saturday night. Although McCain has a large delegate lead nationally, Huckabee carried Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas and Tennessee in primaries Tuesday to give him a strong claim to the Deep South. Louisiana election officials said turnout for Saturday's primary was about 15 percent of eligible voters. State Democratic Party leaders said it was too early to say exactly how many of the delegates would go to Obama and how many to Clinton.
Cape man stood for justice
